Hi folks
My 1.9azz TD glow plug light stays on for about 30-40 seconds, goes out then takes maybe 10-15 seconds to start.Then a big puff of white smoke.
Had glow plugs checked and had new starter relay put in,all ok.
I have noticed in the fuel pipe that while standing the fuel is going backwards?? Should this happen??
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

My 1.6D did that when the starter was running a bit on the slow side, are the brushes OK on the inside of the starter.... though I agree that is a horrible thing to check

My starter turns quite quick being a fairly new one. I think the problem is while standing the fuel is running back. I shone a torch under the fuel pipe and saw it going back with a few air bubbles. Air getting in somewhere maybe??

No familiarity with diesel pumps but on petrols, if the pump is tired or diaphram starting to split, the fuel can run back and it takes an age for the pump (if it even has much stamina left) to pull the fuel up and through. Mine is now doing this if its left to stand more than a day without being run. If fuel has been in the line the day before its less of a problem.

No, often caused by the injector leak off pipes letting air in.

A few people have fitted non return valves in the fuel line to stop this happening. Obviously after checking all the cheap stuff like the fuel lines themselves.
