Hi All,
1.9DG WBX with pierburg carb- How long should it take to heat up and how warm should it get? I am getting 12v at the supply cable but could not check out the element.
Thanks.

Do you have access to a Clip On Ammeter to see if it is drawing current ??
Not had mine to bits yet ... [only thing not in bits recently !] so no words of wisdom, apart from if you can clam + see if draws current ?

But why are you looking at it?
they dont go wrong very often and normally a poor running issue can be down to a poorly carb etc...
As said.. amp meter between the supply and heater to see what drawn.. but it doesnt draw for that long and only from cold...

with the engine cold turn on ignition then put your fingers underneath the manifold underneath carb--you should feel the heater become warm--if you have cold starting probs & lumpy cold running the trouble will probably be with the autochoke

Mine's never worked at all, and the van runs fine from cold!

Lumpy cold running/cutting out is the problem I am having. Will focus on autochoke now.
Cheers

The 2E3 need carefull setting of each part...
the pull down unit is often at fault.. rather than basic setting...

Think problem may well be the choke pull down. Would this cause the engine when cold to "chug"(good word that) in top gear if you are not accelerating and run smoothly again as soon as you drop back into third.
