1.6td throttle adjustment

In spite of being quite happy with the bus round scotland I decided to check a few things out to try and ensure its running as best as it can. With a broom handle jamming the throttle pedal fully open there is whole quarter inch of movement at the pump before the stop is hit. I cannot find an adjuster on the cable to make it take up this slack. I made up a spacer and ran it up the local dual carriageway . It seems to pick up better and will hold top on a local hill. I would rather not use a spacer but like I say no obvious adjustment . There is a hole in the side of the nylon outer cable stop at the pump. Should this have a grub screw in it?

Is the cable adjusted/fitted correctly, if the cable was fitted with the pedal not in the fully raised position (ie tickover) it wouldn't open the pump fully.
Just an idea.

Thanks OBG and JP but i'm bound to say that putting the cable adjustment under the vehicle is something I would expect of land rover or BL. Not the ever practical Germans.

I'll take a look.
