Cylinder no.1 dead

Ok. Firing on three. Cylinder no.1 the culprit tested by removing lead at dizzy and no change to engine note. Has previously had rings etc done.
Changed the plug. Plug noticeably blacker than other 3. Changed leads with no. 2 cylinder. Problem still exists.

Sparking at dizzy cap as we could hear it ticking when the lead was offered back. Not sure how fast this ticking should be though.

What's next guys and girls? The old girl appears to have power...pulls away ok. Pops and farts a little when cold with occasional back fire. Don't notice this when warm.

No nasty rapper noises. Wondering about valves but have no idea what to look for as have never ventured this deep into the engine. Compression test I guess....need to find my meter...

Compression test next. No point in changing other stuff if the compression is low.

well - she has bemused me. :?:

Since changing the plugs the popping and farting has diminished to the point I cannot hear it when driving...or feel it.

Not saying its gone though....but deffo not as bad as it was.

Didn't get round to the compression test...must do that this week.

gammy lifter....kind of hoping :-)

Got a pre-loved dizzy cap that I can try too!

thanks all

Hutch - lead no.1 is now lead no. 2....and vice versa.
