Knocking sound from engine

I've had this knocking sound coming from my engine (1.9 L) for the longest time. As a matter of fact it has always been there (replacement engine in Feb 2014), but could not track it down at all. Used a screwdriver to listen for its source but nothing. I made up stethoscope it only by pure accident traced it to the pivot pin of the fuel pump. All around it there was no harsh noises, but as i was poking around I accidentally touched the pin and it was like a hammer drill.New pump on and no more knocking. Relieved to say the least.
