I've had a quick look and can't seem to find the normal running temp for a 1.9 Dg. Does anybody know?
Cheers.

Thermostat opens at 87 deg C
In the Haynes manual

Cheers I knew that the thermostat opened at 87 but wanted to know what the normal running temp was?

Well - I'd assume that if the thermostat opens at 87, then the intent is that the coolant should be maintained at close to 87 (maybe a smidge less) - or are you after something more accurate than that ??
(i.e. coolant temp rises from ambient until it reaches 87, thermostat opens and allows coolant into the radiator, coolant cools, thermostat closes again, coolant temp rises again ..... and repeat .... so average operating temp would/should be very close to 87)

Ah rocket science!

I have a VDO oil temperature gauge connected to a sensor on the sump drain plug and typically it reads between 90-100 degrees C once fully warmed-up. Hope that helps

Mine sits just slightly above the LED, though it was dead on it before I changed the thermostat and temperature sensors.

I've recently changed the thermostat for a 80 deg one from a (vw golf vr6). I've done 200 miles over the past week up and down the A30 to work and back and all seems to be working well. I run the van on lpg.
Just a note to anybody coming down to the west contry this summer there is a new service station on the A30 at Victora and Lpg is 63.9p a ltr the chepest in cornwall.

With the 80 deg stat does the coolant temp gauge point more to the left of the red LED ? Just wondered if this meant a more efficient cooling system.
PS filled up at Victoria 'tother week ..had only been open 3 hours..pumps really fast and cheap.
Think I saw you flying past on A30 as we were joining at Penhale

Yes the needle is to the left side of the gauge it tuches the left side LED and just creeps up to the middle on a realy long up hill climb.

Mine runs exactly the same with an 80 degree vr6 stat, just about on the led. Temperature of coolant reads between 83 and 89 depending on how hard you make her work. I can't understand why they fitted an 87 stat in the first place. The temp never seems to fall below 83 degrees which seems perfect.
