Front brake flexi bracket - where to buy?

I'm looking for a source of the right-angle bracket, shown in this image immediately to the right of the clip labelled '2'.

Image

It's the bracket that sits under the nut of the top ball joint and supports the union between the flexi brake hose and the short rigid pipe to the calliper. Mine broke this evening while I was wrestling the top ball joint apart, so I'm looking for a replacement. It's the sort of thing that could possibly be knocked up by someone with the right tools and materials, but that's not me! I suspect it isn't 100% necessary, so I'm going to reassemble without it (no choice at the moment), but it would be nice to get a replacement.

I can't find it on Brickwerks, VW Heritage or Just Kampers. Anybody know how to find the part number so I can set Google to work?

A bit more info - it's part 14 on this page, so part number 251611842. Struggling to find it other than in the US though.

Yeah, I saw that, but I don't think it's the same. Mine's an '83. I guess it does the same job though, so if I can find out how/where that later part fixes to the vehicle I could maybe convert to the newer style. It doesn't look like that later part sits under the ball joint nut, which would be a good thing.

Drop the old bracket off at my house and I will take it into work and weld it for you Chris. Unless you can pop it into Central College London Rd in the next hour? Give it to the security on reception.?

Just checked - that Brickwerks part won't fit where my broken part came from, there's nowhere on the upright to fix it. That part looks like it's meant for mounting on the chassis rail.

It's a bit odd - I have a part that looks identical to the Brickwerks part, and it holds the other end of that flexi hose to the chassis rail. It's the part that goes where part 22 in this diagram goes. However, part 22 in that diadram looks identical to the part that I need for the wheel end of that flexi. Some confusion with part numbers I think.

Anyway, I need the part that sits under the ball joint nut. Here's mine, snapped at the right angle bend.

I picked up a steel offcut from the workshops at work, with a view to knocking up a functional replacement myself this evening. I'm not sure it needs all the fiddly bits at the top end - just a right angle bracket with a couple of holes in the right place should do I reckon.

To be honest that would have been my first port of call. I really hate paying a fortune for bits like that

Those 'fiddly bits' are just to stop the bracket turning when its tightened.

You'll do a fine job...

Hehe - you know that saying "when the only tool you've got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail"? Well the only metal cutting tool I've got is a jigsaw, and the only drill bits I've got that are big enough are those flat blade wood bits. It's a good job that sheet steel wasn't any thicker.

Turns out it wasn't quite so urgent though - UPS have let me down and today's delivery now won't get here till Monday, so my van's going to have to sit on axle stands all weekend, with both top ball joints and both track rod ends already removed. Apparently the pickup from Brickwerks reached the depot 5 minutes after the cutoff. Ho hum.

Good job Chris although it looks like it needs to be thicker.
