Hola peeps,
Could anyone inform me of what's going on here.

After 5/10 mins running idle, either smoke or fumes start emanating from this general area around the silencer and r/h exhaust pipe. (which also rotates slightly if attempted)

An oily substance (oil) seems to be getting either into the exhaust as seen from pic, or oil is dripping onto heat exchanger creating smoke, or other? And... should the right hand pipe be much more secure and not rotate around the joint?

Any help is much appreciated.

what engine matey, looks to me like the rocker gaskets are shot

hi, engine is 1.9 petrol watercooled.

mechanic agreed need new rocker gasket. also need to replace some run off pipes? don't know what they are. do they go by another name?

quoted me 90quid, would take 2 hrs if I get the parts.

Rocker gaskets about £1 each and take about 5 minutes each to do. The large spring rocker cover retaining clips often loose their tension and benefit from replacement, again dead cheap and dead easy to do.

Never ever heard of "run off pipes" - I wonder if he meant pushrod tubes ? - If so that can be a tricky(ish) job involving buying quite expensive "collapsible" type ones to avoid (at all costs) having to take the head(s) off. Talk more to us if this is the case !
p.s. - If he did mean pushrod tubes, maybe avoid this guy if he does not know what to call them !!

The only part of the entire exhaust system that should move at all is the heat exchanger, which usually rattles around a bit as they are not "secured" by bolts or owt. Many folk do away with them as they are not needed in our climate here in the UK (they are there to pre-heat the engines intake air in extreme freezing conditions). They and often rust badly and make an annoying rattling sound.
