Just to make it a hat trick of tacho questions on the go this afternoon, anyone fitted a good aftermarket pod type to their van? I was thinking of fitting low on A pillar. I've had a shuft on fleabay and some that I'd have though as suitable actually say unsuitable. Quite a few go to 8k as well, so obviously a bit too high range for us. Van is 1.9 petrol, DG BTW. Pics would be good Ta, bri

Some of us have these, does the job although the illumination is a bit bright, I fitted a 22k ohm resistor to dim it down a bit.

That's what I've got, all £8 of it. I took the light feed off!

Got one of these myself, quite the opposite night time illumination is poor ( or its my wiring)

this is a good place for a stick on 50mm pod imo

Thanks for that folks. The black faced one looks good to me. Pod does look neat on the drivers side airvent. Another q- is there a core in the wiring loom from the coil up to the dash, for factory fitted tacho, or did you have to pull one in? Ta, Bri

In case anybody else passes this way in the future. In answer to my own question... the answer is yes, for late vans.

From what year? I'm guessing when fuse box swapped to blade rather than bullet type.

I'm no expert, but I think that is correct, from 85 facelift. HTH, Bri

Is there a tacho that will work with a 1.6 diesel ? easy to fit ? any recommendations ?

I have one of those £8 tachos on order and have searched Wiki for a wiring diagram but can't find one.

I have an 84 1.9dg with ceramic fuses. Can anyone please tell me how to wire in a tacho?

You could also dump the clock and fit an OE tacho (neater job really):



They do come up. I had to wait a long time but in the end did a swap with another 80/90 member as I had a diesel one and he had a petrol. We just swapped.

You will have to run a wire from terminal 1 of the coil to the tacho and connect to the green tacho wire.
Connect the Red tacho wire to fuse 11 or 12
Connect the black tacho wire to a good earth point.
The tacho illumination wire red to the grey/blue wire for the instrument lights from the light switch or to fuse 1 or 2
Black to a good earth point
