Engine Code - reconditioned?

Hi all,

Having read a few posts on here I learned that the engine code is stamped at the bottom of the oil breather tower. However, what I saw wasn't the format I was expected. A post from ItchyFeet had a photo showing a similar format, saying that it's a recon engine (http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... e#p7975255). I know that the engine was replaced by a previous owner (but not too much beyond that).

Anyway, does anyone know how I use what I've found to learn what my engine code is? I thinking I need this when looking for replacement parts etc.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I am aware the only way you can get a definitive answer on the capacity of the engine is my measuring the stroke of the engine.

This will tell you 1.9 or 2.1.

Beyond that I am clueless!

Thanks Em. I think it's 1.9, but I was wondering whether it is e.g. DG or DH etc

(have been following your thread on your start motor - thinking I may have to replace mine).

Cheers

DH will not have a Pierburg 2e3 carb on.. I think it's a solex on a DF

picture of the engine might help

Thanks Kev. Pretty sure I saw it was Pierburg. I'll take a pic of the engine as soon as I can - it just started tipping it down...

Yes but you can put a pierburg on a 1.9 df , or a 2.1 dj so having a pierburg doesnt prove what engine it is (DH was a us thing i think 1.9 with injection and cat)
The only way to know if its df or dg from the outside is to look at the inlet ports on the head, smaller on df
betwen dg and dj need to measure the stroke as said

Sorry corrected my error.
You can't put a pierburg on a DF without a manifold change and head change IIRC. even then the valve timing is out by miles.
If it has a pierburg chances are it's a DG
DJ will have an oil cooler under the oil filter, and a 10 deg timing mark on the pully

Yes dg manufold is needed with the pierburg but i think it will fit the df heads im sure somebody on here did it.
anyway as you say probably a dg if its got a 2e3 just sayin not definately, oil cooler could have been removed also.

thanks for the great response guys. I took a couple of photos tonight. Looks like it has a pierburg

Does this mean it's likely a DG?

Yes mot likely a dg but as said its not definate as it may have been modified from standard
its an early wbx by the way but you knew that, time to add a sig with engine type and year?

I would say so... DG
And an early cooling system, with no mods, means I doubt very much it's a 2.1 either.
