Need to top up coolant, can I just fill with water or should I use a 50/50 mix. It has the blue/green coolant in it now and should I worry about mixing it with whatever I can buy off the shelf? It's been in the van since I got it.

(I do plan to flush and refill with the pink stuff, just don't have the time before hols next week)

How much do you need to put in it? If its negligible amount I would top it up with water then do a proper flush/refill when you get home and have more time.

The level is just below the min mark. Was mostly worried about the "rust inhibiting" nature of the coolant, just watching a neighbour try to remove an exhaust!

Sure when it was in for mot the garage topped it up, if they used water I didn't want to weaken it too much further

I would drain it down fill with water run for a bit then drain down again (make sure heater is on) then fill with the pink stuff form euro car parts (G12+) compatible 8 litres and the rest water. Then you know it's done for 3 years.

Considering that the system capacity is somewhere around 16 litres then topping up with water...min to max (around 300ml) is hardly going to 'weaken' the mix ..maybe by a couple of percent.... it really isn't going to make a difference.

Pink G12+ antifreezes are based on newer OAT (organo acid technology) which is 'long life' and lasts for 5years....older none OAT based antifreeze (usually blue/green) lasts for just 2 years.

Thanks guys. I plan to drain and refill it with the 5 year stuff soon, but in the meantime, topped up with water.
