Petrol smell on dipstick (pics)

I can smell petrol on the dipstick so took off the fuel pump to check all was ok , this is what I was greeted with in the plastic packer , is this normal or is the pump kaput 1.9 dg 1991

Thats just oil , nothing to worry about but if the pump is knackered could be fuel leaking down into the sump
the reason that oil is there is because somebody used the wrong gasket, the right gasket is hard to come by but the oil will do no harm there imo

The picture is as it was when I removed the pump it was very runny and petrol smelling I have read that the packer should be packed with grease. I think the correct gasket is there

The gasket is the wrong one thats why the oil has come up and got caught, yes you are supposed to grease it but i cant see what harm the oil is acting as a lubricant myself
the right gasket is hard to come by need to make one from gasket paper

my guess in pump is knackered and leaking

Ok thanks itchyfeet think I will give Vw heritage a ring tomorrow about a new pump
