Presumably its along the lower edge - I read that it is partly because the engine is tilted over compared to normal, and partly over-enthusiastic tightening in the past making for a less than perfect seal. I have wondered whether a double gasket would help or whether it would just distort the cover further. I am not a great advocate of loads of goop to solve the problem but you could use rtv sealant - applied and assembled but not tightened until it has cured. This way it forms another gasket rather than just a thin sealing layer.

YupOBGie

Dan another thing
Check camcover on a dead flat plate or just try another one.
There are probably dligthtly different styles and diff quality gaskets too.

Improper cam cover seal fitment, no application of sealant where needed at each end, warped cam cover ? Were the camshaft end caps correctly sealed when fitted ?

What the others have said, plus: the AAZ cam cover doesn't seem to be designed with this 50deg engine tilt in mind. The original JX cover was very different in the way it attached to the cyl head mating face, in that the cyl had was fitted with studs, and the cam cover was tightened into place with nuts on these rather than the (probably not so effective) AAZ method, which is three central studs/nuts. That might be ok for a relatively upright motor, but perhaps not so good for one in this configuration.

Also, the studs at the edge of the mating face on the JX were augmented by two long bars which ran the length of each side of the cam cover, held in place (and presumably helping the oil seal) by the retaining nuts.

Fundamental design difference, I reckon.

I always use a smear of blue hylomar and torque to 5nm on my jx
