Hi,
I have just had my 2l air cooled T25 engine replaced with 2l scooby from TSR Engine Conversions in Sulfolk. Still running the engine in.
However they had to remove my old TIM Rev Counter as it would not work with the new engine. I wired that one in myself, however I am now looking for an alternative pod rev counter to put into my van, however I don't really no where to start or which type to buy now. I was told I take a signal from the ECU ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Subaru ECU puts out a typical 4-cylinder engine revs signal, same as VW I4 engines, at a nominal 12v. I've not dabbled with aftermarket tachos but I'd assume many petrol tachos should work OK. I would hope TSR have labelled up any significant unused engine connections on the loom, but having seen one of theirs where all such wires were just cut off at the ECU you may be out of luck there.

I used all RJES kit to do my conversion, RJES labelled the modified loom with a tacho output, this allowed me to fit a cheap Chinese tacho off e-bay, looks good though.

You could be cheeky and contact RJES, you never know!

Hi, I have a Monster Tacho with adjustable shift light for sale if your interested. I bought it for £75 from Elvis a few years ago, but never got around to fitting in. PM an email address and ill send you some pics over if you like?

I have finally had chance to have a look at my ecu (been away) and they have labelled up my ecu wires, and the Tacho is clearly marked. How easy was it to wire up the cheap tacho as I think that's what I will buy.

Fine, just check the tacho you plan to purchase actually does work with a ~12V ECU signal not just the much higher voltage pulse from an ignition coil. Retailers are pushing so much cheap semi-functional tat, there should be a law against it ! (Oh... there is...)

Thanks for that, as that is my main concern. The few cheaper ones I've looked at seem to take there signal from the coil (os my old TIM one used too on my air cooled engine) should it say in the description ?

Personally I would only buy a main brand which comes with a published spec and has UK office.
