no dash lights

anyone plz help, just bought 1983 w/c devon conversion T25. have had to take out on old stereo from the dash, plus an old non working selmar alarm along with 2.37 miles of cable! thing is, Now i have no dash illumination, no ciggy lighter in dash, and my dash analogue dont work, although it does illuminate????? there's a tough one for you guys n gals !!!!!

You may have accidentally shorted something out whilst removing all the 'stuff' from behind the dash. First step is to check all the fuses to see if any have blown & need replacing. Second step check the small bulbs/LEDs (according to model year) in the dash to see if they need replacing. Third step check connections to electrical components :) Fourth step.......there isn't one! :(

thanks "bowton lad" checked 1st 2 . . .fuses r good,bulbs/leds r good, . . . .ideally i need to know what colour wire runs the dash illumination, maybe i could then shortcut to a new switch n power?????Not toooo bothered bout the clock, but people r makin' fun of my miner style head-torch enabling me to read me speedo. dont think theres much chance of me gettin a speeding ticket tho even if i tried :lol:

the wire you require iirc is grey with a blue trace........

and yes, try the dimmer resistor wheel( which isnt a rheostat)

My van has the same problem. i havent been able to solve it either. if you do sort it out. let me know how so i can have a go.

still not sorted it out yet! i've managed to get the dash lights to partially illuminate when i turn my headlights on, but as soon as i turn the ignition key, they go out :( . really feels like an earthing prob. . . but believe me, ive checked all earths to be good ! BAFFLED OR WOT :?
