Hello,

I was really hoping someone on here could help me as I have looked into all sorts of options now and don't know what would be the best and most effective option to get my camper back on the road. About 2 years ago me and a friend bought a VW t25 in Norwich as a restoration project we have recently finished the welding as had someone look at the MOT fails and now have everything up to scratch however upon starting the van (it was entirely dismantled when bought) the big ends have gone and it makes a hell of a wrattle. I now don't know what to do I have searched ebay for weeks now and the only engines that come up are for spares or repairs or stupidly expensive chromed display models. Is a conversion possible? and how easy would it be to use say a VW golf engine. I am not a mechanic and although am learning will not be able to complete any main repair works myself so have to enlist the help of and pay my mechanic at mates rates however has quoted me £480 labor to fit a replacement and also the cost of the engine ideally i would like to replace the engine with an original however have no idea where to get one from other than ebay.

So I guess what I am asking is -

Does anyone have a engine for sale?

If not

does anyone know where would be the cheapest and friendliest place to buy one as a lamen

or

how much would someone charge to fit a conversion if I supplied the engine.

Does anyone know anyone who can do this?

Any help / pointer / contacts anyone could supply would be ideal as I say I am living on a budget and so the most economical option would be appreciated to finally complete this van and get it back on the road

the engine was a

2.0l CU engine (Aircooled)

Many thanks in advance,

Alex

You say you are not a mechanic so how are you sure its big ends?
drained hydraulic tappets make a hell of a din until they have filled

^^ E's got a point there..

Because it's an Aircooled there's quite a lot of work to slapping a watercooled in there. best option would be to keep looking for another Aircooled lump IMHO. you're looking at about £1500 for the parts alone to perform the golf (GTi) conversion

It takes my old BMW 1/2 hour for the tappets to pump up again after 6 months sitting around so an old engine like yours is going to take ages especially as it isn't being used daily. I very much doubt that it is the big ends also - just the tappets drained down.
