Hi, am pondering whether to but a mk3 golf 8v for the agg or engine and loom/ecu etc only. Q is, when removing loom does that literally mean everything front to back lights, sensors etc? Is thete any shortcut to taking only the 'brains' and leaving fiddlystuff thanks.

No, you need the loom from the ECU and the motor loom.
