1987 van with older engine?

Think I've figured out why the van is quite loud

Looks like when the van had its engine replaced, an older one was put in? It's a late exhaust modified to fit early engine by the looks of it. Would have thought it would have been best to blank off the n/s rather than weld on a tailpipe?

Guessing this would have a detrimental effect on performance and economy?

What the blithering heck?
why would you do that
nothing wrong with the early exhaust its actually cheaper than the late one but probably best change the silencer to an early one assuming header piper are still origional and not bodged, just remove the brackets

not sure performance or economy are affected alot they are not great anyway

May be a late engine, early exhaust will fit, early engine has only one oil pressure sender, late has two, easy to check

Might cut that tailpipe off and weld a plate over it for now then start saving pennies for a nice new complete stainless system.

Are the 2 styles completely interchangeable?

Why bother? The late silencer is end fed so they must have punched through somehow, might make it worse blocking it up

Early will fit a late but to fit late to early you need the saddles and a different engine mount
