1.9L Syncro and Non-Syncro Engines?

Is there a differance between a 1.9L Syncro Engine and a Non-Syncro engine?
The reason i'm asking is i replaced my non syncro with a engine from a syncro and whilst looking for rebuild parts this question came up on one of the sites i looked at.
They looked the same, I could interchange parts so the thought never crossed my mind.
Cheers

slight variation on the carb, carb gasket, the thermostat housing and the rubber elephant's trunk and idle air bypass hose that's all

Do you know what the carb differance is? When i swapped engines i kept the original and did not use the Syncro carb. Would this have an effect on anything, like top speed? I used to be able to do 70mph, and now max out at 60.
i do recall the gasket/spacer on the syncro was much taller then the non syncro, and had to swap the carb studs.
Also, the throttle linkage between the syncro (manual trans.) and my original (auto trans.) are different. i had plans to use the original carb becuse it would be tuned to that engine but someone had welded the throttle linkage on the syncro carb so i could not easliy swap it.Except for loss of top end speed it seems fine. just went for it's MOT and the emmissions are lower too.

if the carb and the disi and the timing are the same the performance should really be the same as it was

Isn't there a different rear lipped crank seal for wading as well?
