Door seals

A few weeks ago I painted the bottom half of my cab door in rustoleum (it's going to be a 2 tone finish).

Inspecting it now, I've noticed that it's got some nasty steaks in the paintwork which I gather is caused by perishing seals. Not a problem I think, I'll just replace them!

Upper and lower scrapers are not an issue and Chris from VW Emporium can help me alongside the front and rear screen seals I'll order at the same time. Quarterlight seals for fixed windows however are impossible to get it would appear.

I've tried a few of the usual suppliers, but was wondering if anyone knew of a supplier of the VW seal?

VW Emporium have offered me good used ones, but I'm worried that it will cause the same streaking on my paintwork...

Alternatively is there a way I can treat the existing seal which isn't too bad to stop it from ruining my paintwork?

Nowt you can do to treat existing seal, It will just keep doing it. Once sorted though, a quick go with the roller will put right any marks. The problem is worse on very light colours.

Custom and commercial say they are no longer available, but the claim to include them in their complete door seal kit. I'll contact thoem tomorrow and see what they say... Although £260 is a bit scary for a few rubber seals

Thanks for the link anyway. I'd not seen this supplier before.

A decent wax coat on the offending seals can sometimes prevent some streaking. But, I rustoleumed my Merc in white and get streaks even where there is no rubber above it just acres of panel! Someone else was posting about this a while back - a search may bring up the topic. It may well not be the seals and is just the way the paint behaves with airborne pollution.

I wonder if some kind of wax or lacquer is the solution to that (i.e. on the paint rather then the seals)?

I noticed the test panel I did in white rustoleum on mine is streaky, was planning on doing the whole van in white at some point, but starting to feel reluctant! My seals certainly need replacing, but I suspect it might streak anyway from what you've said?

E D I T: I will try wax on my test panel and report back in due course, but first I need my van back ;)
