Just trying to get a new 205 70 14 tyre for the bus and I cant locate any. Last year there seemed to be a limited number on the internet but there were some available, all of a sudden zilch. i've even asked a couple of dealers who say they cant locate any. Anyone any ideas where i might get one?

thanks for that. i also went back to the web and mytyres list 3 tyres. There seem to be plenty with a load rating of 95 but our vans need 98+ and it looks like these are getting rare (and probably expensive!)

Incorrect.
The maximum axle weight of a T3 is 1300kgs so the tyres, and wheels, need be load rated to at least 650kgs each....and 95 load rated tyres are 690kgs.

TyreTraders have a few 95+ load rated 205/70/14 tyres as well......even a 102/100 rated tyre.

i believe the original fitting for a multivan like mine was a 97 load rating.

Yes 25+ years ago when there was very little tyre choice in 205/70/14's for a Multivan....Semperit and Michelin are the only 2 that spring to mind.
In the very same handbook VW also stated to use leaded petrol in the 2.1WBX as well....

As long as the wheels and tyres are load rated to at least 650kgs each(higher the better) then there isn't an issue.....and 95 load rated 205/70/14 tyres are perfectly ok for a Multivan as they can handle 690kgs each...2760kgs in total.

Tyre technology, and technology in general, has thankfully improved vastly since the 80's and due to the amount of MPV's made now there's more choice of non-commercial tyres that are suitable to handle upto 2.5 tons.

I was in the same boat a few months back, seemingly little choice but someone on here recommended Nexen Roadian AT. I was pretty skeptical given their country of origin but I couldn't have been more wrong. These are quiet on the road considering their AT designation, I have no complaints about grip or steering, they are a good all purpose tyre.

oponeo...
Seem to have a wide selection and prices are normally pretty unbeatable...
ordered 6 of 205r14 last year.. turned up in 3 days.. Couldn't get the tyres I wanted in the UK.. Oponeo had just what I wanted..
last July ordered a pair of large 19" tyres for my car.. arrived in 3 days.. saved 70 quid a tyre over local tyre place could do the same tyre for..
Last week.. ordered another pair of 19" for my car .. arrived in 4 days.. saved 80 quid a tyre...

In effect though, isn't increasing the tyre size in this way leaving you more prone to wall flexing? I say this because prior to more recent sets of 8-ply tyres, I too used to fit tyres designed for people carriers, SUVsb etc. My tyre place described them as 'extra heavy duty' or similar. Not actually 8-ply but tougher than a car tyre and close to or exceeding the load rating. Tyres were quieter and fantastic grip but it felt most odd if your cornered a bit sharp and I was forever getting punctures every year.

Surely its going to be easier in the long run to fit 15" wheels and then you move into the more competitive (and cheaper) area for commercial tyres. A lorry tyre fitter advised me to do that and how right he was. Before I used to have to really scrabble around to find the right tyre on 14's. Going from 14" to 15" suddenly meant I could get a new tyre virtually anywhere and outlets were falling over themselves to offer the best price. Harder ride but the punctures stopped and the effects associated with wall flexing vanished.
