Have been trying to source a rad for the last couple of days, ordered 1 off GSF only to recieve a call today at work from GSF peops saying that the rad is unavailable,(although on their web page all the no's are the same there is a differance in the rad apparently) and that they can no longer supply a rad for a 1600N/A smoker! I carried on ringing round and managed to get some outragous quotes of up 2 £300!!! Guess ill be gettin mined re-corred then!!
Just to check i have 2 pipes coming off the o/s bottom of my rad. 1 faces towards the rear of the van, the other points straight down, and the rad is secured by rubber mounts top an bottom. is this diffeant to urs?
1 more thing, how do you actually drop the rad out? there are a couple of metal bits that secure the spare wheel that seem to appear to stop the rad from dropping out?
Any advice gratefull recieved, its too dark an cold outside to go pokin around much more.

To remove the radiator .Drop the spare wheel pan and remove the metal frame that the spare wheel sits into. You will find two pins that can be removed where the frame locates. There are two bolts under each corner beneath the rad that hold metal brackets .The brackets locate into the rad via small lugs/holes.The rads sits on them remove the wiring on the cooling fan and undo the bracket bolts. This will allow the rad to be lowered and out of the spare wheel area.Dont forget to undo the clips that hold the inlet and outlet hoses to the rad so you can pull them off.

just a thought but is a waterbox rad that different from a deisel? cant be too much difference in size, an inlet an out let and a thermostat and fan, surely one could be swaped instead?

i did have that tought as well(well in fact the thought was more "gimmie a rad of about the same size for £50 an i'll make it fit

")
Y on earth are these little rads so expensive? do they have some funky valve sytem in them?

Could you get GSF to order you a waterboxer rad into your nearest shop and compare it to yours? Thats what i normally do when things arent clear and my local GSF are always happy to do it.

Thought the rads were much the same, just the fans and the width of the duct was different on diesels

i did go into my friendly local parts palace an took a gander at the rad book. The differance seems to be where the hoses attatch, and the way the rad mounts to the body. Only problem being that wen i dissapeared up the front of my van to see which one i needed after work my rad seems diffeant to both pictured in the book.

There are 2 styles of radiator.
The really early radiators are different, they have 2 fan switches at the top of the radiator, the later radiators have one fan switch towards the bottom of the radiator.
The earlier radiator has a separate metal pipe that runs down the side of the radiator, the later rad has this built in and has 2 outlets at the bottom.
Not 100% sure but I think this alternative radiator was only fitted to really early Diesels ('82, '83??)
Early radiators are thin on the ground, if you do need one it may be best to get yours recored, or convert to the later radiator which will require swapping the fan wiring about and replacing the radiator hoses.
There was a rumour that EuroCarParts did have some early style ones. To be honest you don't often see them, I have seen 2 in the garage in 18 months.

some books seem to list 2 or 3 differant rads, just found an online pic that matches mine, if any1 with a differant engine knows if this is the same as theirs let me know.
