Gearbox input shaft circlip

Hi guys,

Can I get an opinion from the gearbox guys please?

I have a new gearbox that was originally a petrol box for my diesel.

I swapped the bell housing and input shaft an all is fine.

My one question is due to time constraints and the lack of a suitable circlip I reused the circlip for the input shaft but now I'm worried it was a mistake? I could take the box out again and order a new circlip ? What do you guys think?

Cheers

I'm not a gearbox expert, but in my experience of circlips on lots of other things, as long as it was undamaged it should be just fine :)

Thanks for the reply ghost, I tend to agree and normally only replace damaged clips but that said most of them are in places I can get at again. I'm not sure if I'm worrying myself into changing it!

:)

I replace this circlip everytime because it gets stretched getting it on when new, stretched getting it off to change the shaft and stretched again reusing it, half the boxes I see have been repaired before and this circlip is nearly always poor; if it comes out of the groove then the muff can slide along the shaft into the differential at speed which can get messy. It will probably be absolutely fine, of course, but because I warrant it I won't take a chance for the sake of 60p vw price

I had a feeling you may say that, thanks for the info! The box has not yet been filled with oil so I think I will drop it out and change the clip - do you think the paper gasket will be reusable it was a new one

gasket should be fine to reuse if you are careful when removing bellhousing when new
