Starter battery shut-off switch - which cable to break?

I want to install a basic shut-off switch on my main/starter battery, for two reasons: (1) to avoid drain when parked up for a while (2) theft deterent.

Does it matter whether I insert it on the black or red cable? I've seen both options proposed in online / Youtube 'how to' guides.

As you want to hide the switch then using the long +ve cable would be my choice...

Battery isolator switches are normally fitted in the battery earth lead.

does'nt really matter, do whats easiest for you. I had a key operated battery isolator fitted to my old bus. I fitted into the wheelarch at the front, so its by your left heel. this way the terminals are under the bus and nearly impossible to get to, to short out( it switched positive). Steve
