Plymouth banjul charity rally

Hi all, here is a link to a charity rally I am taking part in, after christmas. We are looking for private individuals to sponsor us, for a very worthy cause on the link and also would really like some assistance from traders with equipment (Jerry cans, shovels , camping equipment etc) in exchange for some fairly high profile advertising on the side of our vehicle. All donated equipment will be left in the gambia for the locals to use. Any help with the trip would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Pete :D

I know everyone will think I'm awful (''Its for charity!!!!'') but.....

Is this really a good idea? :?

Do the people of Gambia really want a clapped out Nissan?

Or is it just a jolly? A bit of an adventure on the cheap!

A mate of mine did it a couple of years back and enjoyed it very much. He drove a volvo most of the way and think it got towed the last 100 miles or so iirc; it was still bought for spares at the auction and raised money for the charity; but as in everything there are pro's and con's.

My mates latest madcap scheme was to ask me to consider joining him on this : http://www.rickshawrun.com/

Now thats mental !

Good Luck with the Banjul run Pete; and no cheating :D

Now that looks like fun...........

When in Nepal a few years back had a trip in a rickshaw up a rough lane.

Could not stop laughing the whole way, no suspension you see!

Thanks Clive and Jenny for the very generous donation :)
The Nissan has had a full rally style roof rack fitted and this weekend I am mounting the second spare on the bonnet and a safe welded inside.
Not long to go now.
If anyone else would like to sponsor me remember that these donations go straight to magpas charity and the actual funding of this jolly is mainly by me and with a little help from local businesses who have paid to have some very good advertising space on the vehicle. A Diesel 4x4 like this will be very valuable in the Gambia and should fetch at least £1500 for education and training charities. Last year, vehicle sales raised about £140,000 pounds.

Hi all,
Made it all the way to the gambia with no mechanical problems at all. Drove through England, france, morocco, western sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and into the Gambia, 6500 kms later! Atlas mountains fantastic and fast hot desert driving simply amazing. Will definately return in a Syncro but the only one I saw was abandoned near a minefield at the Mauritanian border with an Engine failure!
At least £3500 for charity raised. :)

Well done Pete & Co :)

Sounds like a a great success all round , hopefully we'll be hearing some great stories over the Syncronaut campfires this year...

Want to hear more already, especially the fast driving over the deserts :P
