crankcase/flywheel oil seal/clutch replacement

Hi Guys,

Need to replace my clutch, flywheel oil seal and crankcase oil seal. Can i get away with just removing the gearbox?

I assume it'll be an easier job to remove the engine but lack of drive way and work area make that difficult. Atleast with just gearbox out i can leave it in the back of the van overnight if need be.

I'm hoping once the box is out i can just sit under the van in place of the gearbox and do the clutch/seals work.

Cheers

Yes taking the gearbox out is the easiest way I think but you will still need to get the van up on blocks or ramps

Flywheel oil seal....crankcase oil seal...aren't they the same thing? or are we talking about something else? input shaft seal perhaps.

I would also recommend replacing the spigot shaft bearing (in the end of the crankshaft) and the Oilite bush, for the starter motor (they wear oval).

Hi yes sorry not to be clear i mean the big crankcase seal and the o ring in the flywheel as in sarrans video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLaA6flr9DA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just watching that video again, with the engine still in the van is it possible to undo the big 36mm flywheel nut? Sarran uses a breaker bar in the video which won't be possible with the engine in place.

Hello,

Did this exact job a few weeks ago. I bought the flywheel locking tool that made life much easier.

It's possible to use a 2ft breaker bar, if the van is on ramps at the rear.

Give me a shout if you need any more help.

If your stuck then PM me and I'll send you my phone number.
