The cam in the sliding door hinge just broke in half and fell out. Luckily I found it because otherwise I'd have had much less of a clue as to why the door was buggered :S Is that weird? Metal fatigue? I've found that we can get a replacement for just over a tenner, but taking the door off and ferckling about with it has me nervous. This is all new to me and I've only seen posts about people replacing the whole hinge, not taking it apart and replacing a bit of it.

I suppose it could have gone in the "what did you do to your T25 today" thread, as in "we broke it".

Easy fix. You only need to remove the slider cover (two screws), and then the nut.

Well if you feel like getting rid of all the gunge - and it does make for a quieter and easier sliding door - then yes, you're going to have to remove the catch. That's easier than you'd think too though. Slide it about half way open, to where there's a notch in the underside of the runner, support the corner of the door on a jack (with a cloth and/or a block of wood), then pull the whole catch assembly away from the runner. With that nut removed you can then just drift the catch up off the pivot.

Urgh, turns out the ones that go either side of the spring on the other side of the hinge are broken into bits too. Now I can't fix it until I can get replacements. I was hoping to sort it out this weekend I suppose this means I get the challenge of taking the door off and all that now. Nervous yay? I've got four children that I need to be throwing in and out of Biscuit, so a sliding door that works would kind of be ace.

So, the knackered cams on both sides of the hinge are now replaced, and the lower roller guide that got damaged when the door blew off the jack in the most stupid freak gust of Welsh wind ever is replaced with a nice not mangled one from a breakers yard in Suffolk. The door is working again... well, at least as well as it was when we got the bus last month, but...

The nylon block guide thingy that travels the hinge along is worn to the point that the groove is too wide and that and the metal part of that side of the hinge has been dragging along the painted bodywork behind it for what must be a long time, because there's a nasty big rusty trail that it now drags along in the middle of the runner, which explains why the grease looked like Ghandi's revenge when I cleaned it out. I can see that I can get a replacement block with a screw and nut for six quid, but the old one is riveted on, so do I have to drill out the rivet to replace it? How do I go about doing that? I don't want to bugger it up, because replacing that whole side of the hinge would hurt me in the wallet. I'm getting the feeling that this amount of enthusiasm and cluelessness is common in new owners?
