ive just changes the fuel hose in my van (just as well as it was all splitting up) 1st the hose from the top left of the carb(pierburg) going to the tank had a fuel filter fitted the wrong way around connected in line, I have removed this should it be a one way valve instead and the previous owner got confused or does it not need one , I have put in a brass connector and removed the filter

the fuel pipe that comes into the bulkhead from the tank is a very small plastic pipe (thin black plastic pipe looks like the pipe that is used in the vacuum advance circuit) that then has fuel hose connected to it that goes to the fuel pump, should this be a metal pipe into the bulk head for the hose to connect to. the previous owner had bodged a lot so I just want to be sure its correct, im thinking of pulling the plastic pipe and using fuel hose from the pump to the fuel filter under the van , would this be ok ,any advise would be great as I want to be sure the fuel circuit is safe. anyone who hasn't checked check your fuel hose , mine looked good but when I took them of and bent them they were all bad cheers

the thin plastic fuel pipe is what was fitted when it was built just replaced my fuel hose after less than a year

And as faggie says the rubber hose just fitted onto the plastic pipe at the bulkhead.

Top left - do you mean the corner nearest the front left of the vehicle? That's the return line to the tank, so it doesn't need a filter. Mine doesn't have a non-return valve, but maybe that's where this goes?

Brickwerks have started doing a feed pipe kit (as well as a return pipe kit), which includes the plastic pipe. When I bought mine it had fuel hose for the entire run, but replacing that regularly with the correct grade of hose would be very expensive. Before the Brickwerks kits were available I replaced most of the hose with rigid kunifer pipe on both the feed and return, which I routed all the way into the engine bay, so the remaining hose sections are quite short.

So is that just to stop fuel draining down from the carb? Mine's run without this for at least the last year, and seems fine without.

It's to stop fuel weeping past the float valve if the vehicle is parked nose up at a steep angle for long periods.

Ah ok - do you mean from the tank via the return line?

thanks for your replies yep I mean the line from the carb that exits on the lefthand side of the bulkhead ,(the right hand side being the inside)
am I right in thinking the non return valve if fitted would be behind the bulkhead on the left between the bulkhead and the return fuel inlet on the tank
I will take a look at the plastic pipe as knowing the state of the rest of the hoses they may be bad too, I will take a look at the brickwerks kit, thanks everyone I am slowly getting there and getting great satisfaction from making everything good again cheers all
