2.1 stalling on idle

Hi, I am hoping you can help i have finally been using my van in anger after sorting out my starting issue's with my van. I have had 2 longer trips now and i am starting to get a fault when running.
the first time i was sitting in a queue of traffic after covering 40 miles and the engine cut out and stalled it restarted first time and i didn't have any other problems.
This weekend i was driving and came to a set of lights and the van cut-out as I was stopping. It started first time again carried on my trip, got back and stopped at some lights after 30 secs of idle the van cut-out again but it started again straight away.
The van appears to run nicely and its covered 400 miles. Its a 2.1 DJ engine.
Sorry if this has been covered before.

Start with making sure the throttle position switch is switching reliably, and the idle valve is working.

Thanks for the swift reply Adrian, is it easy to check the throttle position switch? I saw this video on adjusting the throttle position switch

could you use a standard volt meter to check?

I forgot to say that the idle seems constant at about 800rpm without moving too much and when it stalls it just cuts out and the battery lights come on

Yep - there's a two-pin multiplug coming away from it. Just unplug that, and check for continuity between the two pins on the switch's half. Open and close the throttle manually - gently and letting it snap shut, engine off and engine running. You should see the switch open and close on the meter.
If it's idling smoothly otherwise, it doesn't sound like that, though. It just... cuts? No roughness, no low idle, no coughing or spluttering? Odd.

Yes it does appear to idle smoothly, no real fluctuation i will warm it up and see if i can recreate the problem rather than checking when i am in traffic.
Would it be worth increasing the idle speed to see if its just been set too low? I have replaced Coil, leads and plugs in the last month and this was the first couple of long runs since this

Had very similar problem with mine, had the fuel pump and filter changed, but was still cutting out intermittently. The garage found out it was some earth wires causing the problem. Probably worth getting wiring checked. Hope you get it sorted
soon. Cheers jack

It sounds like the idle stabilisation isn't compensating as it should......this valve automatically increases revs whenever needed ie: with the operation of the lights/power steering etc. These engines are prone to stalling without its correct function.

I finally found the problem for this, I had a bad set of plug leads. Noticed arching in the dark when having problems. Swapped them for a new set and the stalling problems have been solved
