Sandblast, dip or good ol' run down!?

I've got a question regarding paint.

I have picked up a tailgate to replace my rusty old knackered one - its been handpainted and I want to prep it up before getting it sprayed (or maybe try the 'paint with a roller' if I can get the color).

Question is shall I dip it or sandblast to get the crappy handpainted coat of paint off - do I need to get it down to bare metal to get the best finish?

All advice appreciated.

Personally i would go at it gently to remove the hand painted stuff. Protect the integrity of the OE paint as this will save you a load of misery and if you look at most 30+ year old vans, is still going strong- its the rust underneath that is the issue, the paint is fine. 180 on a DA should be fine IMHO :ok

Good shout Elvis - will go down that road :ok

As you say - the OE paint underneath looks solid so will aim to keep that. Cheers
