Help!

Hi all,

Just about to leave for a couple of nights just up the road, got it fully loaded then decided to check the oil.

Pulled dipstick, cleaned reinserted, pulled it - all good. Put it back and it snagged half way so twisted and pullled it to free it and when it came out the last couple of inches is missing, from the middle of the min max downwards.

1) is there any chance that the broken bit will cause damage if it falls into the engine (I think it is stuck in the tube)

2) can I run without a dipstick? (about 50 miles tops planned this weekend)

3) how easy is it to change the tube?

Cheers

Dave

Not sure on point 3 but I'd say put back the bit you have and go enjoy your holiday. Even if it has dropped into engine, it'll have enough weight to sit in the sludge at the bottom of the crankcase. Just go and sort it when you come back.

Probably no sludge Covkid, I just fixed a fuel leak into the crankcase so probably as clean as a whistle in there!

Easy peasy, two bolts holding the bracket, pull out dipstick tube, there will be a rubber o ring that seals the tube at the engine end

All sorted, Father in law plus magnet dragged it out first time!

At last a bit of luck, right, see you all at the beach ;)
