overheating

been getting a constant whirring noise from engine (1900 water cooled) whilst driving for a couple of weeks . yesterday though temperature went right up and water was bubbling after only a mile drive. any ideas what might be? water pump possible?

id say the waterpump for sure.that noise is it comeing from the waterpump and if you put your hand on it while the engine is running can you feel a kind of grinding feel?
thats what mine felt like when mine went.also is there any water dripping and makeing a small puddle under the van
