been searching for the past 1/2 hour and not found a definitive answer yet, so thought I'd ask

I've had vdubs for the past 30 years, but it's close on 20 since our last camper and we are now on the hunt for a new family member. As with most vdub nuts, I can't afford a splittie and bays are at the age they either fetch stupid money or they are complete basket cases.
No disrespect intended, but do I go T25 or just bite the bullet and buy one of those modern front engined thingies

I've never been that hung up on fuel economy, but after holidaying in Scotland in 2010, driving a 2.8 Audi A6, we vowed to find something a bit more economical for our next visit.

Can someone please advise on the fuel consumption on the various versions of the T25, do any of them do more than 30mpg

24 mpg is a result on a long drive at a steady 55mph. Around town perhaps 18mpg with a petrol engine.

Or go for a van that has LPG or a newer type Turbo Diesel conversion?

1.6 n/a diesel will do close to 40 on a run.....

1.6 jx turbo d will do a good 35

Aaz 1.9 will do somewhere around 35

Tdi will do high 30s....maybe just touching 40 in the right van, right driver....

would you want a split if you could afford it nice to look at but.....................

I would love a splitty too, but having been inside a couple a shows couldn't believe how little space wouldn't suit us for camping but would love to own one as they are such a cool vehicle imho.

My westy pop top with a jx does exactly what Keith says had as low as 31mpg when really windy and cold had as much as 38mpg but on average it will do 36mpg most of the time. I never go above 100km in the bus as don't feel th need to push a 25year old camper.

We get 20 ish MPG with a 2.0 CU Aircooled Devon Pop top. I am sure if I drove it a bit harder it would go down !!

A neighbour has a Winnebago based on an old Renault (traffic possibly). Room galore but he only gets 11MPG and the only place he goes is Morrisons, parks in their car park, puts his telly on, makes a cuppa, and drives back again. Can't see the point myself....

Now and again it goes to be fixed (for what seems like months) after hes twiddled with it.

It Definately does goes down! I drive 'freely' and get about 17-18 MPG (but then I'm running on LPG as suggested above so can convince myself I'm really getting 34-36MPG!!)

Simple really. If you want one as a hobby then go for a T25, if you want "just a camper" go for a T4 or T5.

Ours is a fairly light "Tin-Top" camper and on LPG and does the equivalent of around 40 to the gallon. On petrol it does about 22mpg.
