Has anyone fitted or know if a propex (1600) can be fitted into the box under one of the front seats or not? Seems an ideal location if it will go in...exhaust can vent down toward wishbone, clean air from center area under van...
Ta.

I think you are suposed to leave room above it
Not sure why as it doesnt really get hot

Well I have a van and a propex so guess the easy way to find out is to do it...my seats are quite high as they are from a touran but will report back...watch this space.

Ok tryed it and yes it fits...put it in upside down so the inlet and exhaust are up so they would need holes cutting to point down but the area under is clear so that's ok...I have quite a big gas pipe poking out the back but it could be fitted and ducted to let the warm air vent be fitted in the back of the seat box with only about 4" of flexi pipe and the intake could be turned 90 degrees with a silcone bend.
I do have seats with a fair bit of room but the top of the box is only about 10mm above the tops of the welded in seat runners so I suspect a standard or swivel could maybe be spaced up to just clear the box top....I have just read the fitting manual and can't see anything about leaving a space above the unit..I think with a little modification I can even get the standard hinged vw box cover back on and looking decent...
I have a compact 1600 propex...not sure if the newer 2000 etc are taller or not?

Hs 2000 manual says you need 25mm around the unit, probably just a ar$e covering statement
dims of an hs 2000 is around 100mm high x180mm x 400mm
space under seat with standard seats cant be much more than 100mm
So id say an hs2000 is not going to be a going to be ideal under standard seats , no idea about the 1600

How hot does the exhaust get? would it set the underseal alight on the underside of the seatbox?

No. But you are supposed to have a hole for the exhaust stub that has a 1/4" extra clearance around it and a corrugated metal exhaust pipe fastened so it is spaced away from the metal, to take the gasses to the side of the van. That way the hot bit never actually touches the van. (Actually even the stub does not get so hot you cannot touch it).

It does....I let the heater run for a bit and touched the stub....wet fingers went sizzle! It's in anyway...it's to high really but like I say I have touran seats and long legs so it fits....Metal Mender Mikes right..the box could be easily modded to suit any seat height.

How are you ducting the heat out, this is an idea I'm keen to copy however I have a buddy box which may hamper things.
Any pics

Heat out pipe points rearwards...it might just be possible to bent it 90 degrees with a silicone elbow...maybe..
