Steering wheel height/rubbing

I have a problem with my steering wheel not having enough clearance between it & the central switch assemblies underneath, so it rubs on them & also heavily wears the horn contacts. Someone has had a new steering lock fitted before I bought the van & I'm wondering if they have missed something out on re-assembly. Does anyone know what originally sets the height, ie a spacer somewhere on the column?

Bump. I really need to sort this for the MOT next week as I've had to remove the horn fuse due to it going off all the time, usually at the most inopportune moment

Is this with a factory wheel?
I wonder if someone has fitted a non standard wheel at some point and has fitted 'stand offs' under the switchgear.

Turns out it was the ball race that fits into the top of the steering lock assembly had worn allowing the column to drop a little too much. Now onto the job for today; rear hub bearings....

Did you replace this ball race or adjust it somehow??
Keen to know as my hot is rather intermittent

I'm also interested in both the wheel an hot girl!
Just bought another van, took the filthy wheel off to clean it and found that the brass ring on the bottom is shredded and there is very little left of the strip on the stalk assembly. Not sure what would cause this with a standard wheel but I'll have a look at this ball race.

I adjusted the steering lock down the columb a bit as it clamps to a slotted bracket, but will have to get a new steering lock complete with bearing asap as its starting to rub again. I don't think the bearing is replaceable on its own but I will have a try when its off.
