1.9 DG to 2.1 DJ upgrade worth it?

Hello

I am in the final stages of buying a 2.1 DJ engine to replace my 1.9 DG. The 2.1 is injection and the 1.9 is carb. I've decided to do this because after a recent trip to France I would like a bit more power up the mountain passes :D

I am going to see a real difference here? I've heard the 2.1 DJ injection is as good as it gets whilst keeping the engine stock. Will the 2.1 be ok running on LPG? The new engine will be coming with everything I need including flywheel clutch exhaust ECU etc etc.

Thanks

For a short while I owned a twin slider Caravelle with that set up. It was very noticeably more powerful than the DG Tin-Top we own (our DG motor is in good nick by the way). It was very smooth too and seemed quite happy cruising at 80mph. The only downside I see is that if it plays up, the injection system is more complicated than a carb. I am told that the injection system is pretty reliable generally though.

It will be fine on LPG but obviously the LPG system will need changing to suit the injectors instead of a carb. Usually a job for Gasure or Campershack.

Thanks for the reply. Cannot wait to get it fitted now and on the road enjoying this weirdly warm spring we are having!

if you are worried about the injection system then fit the carb and manifold from your dg engine complete with your existing lpg set up it will work well, lots on here have done just that :ok

Yeah.. you can install the "2.1" under all your DG ancillaries.. works very well.. not quite the top end of the DJ, but loads more low and mid range grunt..
Got one in my velle and in the Syncro..

Bare in mind that 20 odd year old injection system WILL need some refurbishment.. and also, the injected engine have a different fuel tank (swirlpot pick up.., bigger outlet) and electric fuel pump..

No rejetting needed.
The DJ is just a longstroke DG.
