awning

Hi all,we are considering fitting a fiamma wind out awning to the side of our pop top van,fixing it to the fiberglass on the side.Would this be strong enough to hold it.The other question is would it look silly,we know a few of you have them so any input would be gratefull,if you bought a van without one would you put one on...etc...etc. Hope we havent offended anyone....
