As above really. Hopefully I caught mine before it totally seized but I may need a new one. Huge variation in prices online. Can any one recommend a good quality distributor please

If you are talking about the new ones I would say they all come from the same far eastern source. I've fitted a few to bays and a couple of the Lucas replacements they have all worked as they should, for how long time will tell. The Rotor arm and cap don't seem to be that good I had one starting track out, best to replace with a Bosch one.

As to yours if the pad was totally dry lubricate it well with 3 in 1 oil first then with normal engine oil every oil change.

Thanks for the info. Put engine oil on pad already, should have waited. Think the distributor is kaput, when I reconnect the vacuum pipe the timing jumps 20+ degrees to 30 btdc and as the vacuum does hold I think it must be the distributor itself.
