Guys. I have got my camper back after being stolen. I'm still having issues with the ignition switch and would really appreciate some pics of the wiring to the switch. I'm pretty sure the garage have not wired it right but need something to compare it to. Cheers.

1.9 water boxer 1985. When I turn the key the engine turns over but doesn't start until I turn the key back. I'm thinking faulty switch or wired wrong??

They have possibly put the 15 and X cables on the wrong terminals. Black goes to 15, Black/Yellow goes to X terminal.

Late van but id think its the same...

Any chance of a diagram or pic (bigherb) as the garage have used spade connectors as the original was broken when the scumbags nicked it.

Sorry mate....but the garage have carried out an poor repair . It should have been properly fixed by ordering new parts from Volkswagen, so the wiring was brought back to original condition....spade connections are not good enough for an insurance job and don't let them fob you off, just because its an old bus doesn't mean it shouldn't be repaired to original spec.

Thanks for the pic and positive suggestions for a solution. Connections swapped round and started first time.

What is inside the wiring loom? Oh yeah spade connectors! No one mentioned insurance! It was a fix to get the van back on the road so I could get it home to fix properly myself. The van was halfway up country with minimal damage. Less than my excess.

I'm happy you were pleased with the 'less than perfect repair' and now you have explained yourself I can understand where you were coming from.

I'm sure your repair is fine and fit for purpose, some on here are not happy unless it's to VW spec but it's your van and you can do what you like
