WHICH TYPE/GRADE OF FUEL?

I have a 2.1i DJ engine in my van. Confused as to best fuel to use. German handbbok says super leaded, although all other petrol engine models can use normal unleaded. Running on reg. unleaded at time of purchase but advised to use super unleaded intermitantly. Anyone got the definative answer to this question for me?
Cheers.

according to Haynes any WBX made after '83 can be run on unleaded all the time without damage--the only exceptions woz some 2.1s but they can be adjusted to run unleaded---so if yours runs ok on unleaded--it must have already been ajusted-

My 2.1 has a label next to the filler saying use super grade petrol only. The expert that installed my new engine agreed - super unleaded. But now I run on lpg much cheaper!

I thought Super unleaded was produced for high revving engines. our engines top out around 5 1/2 thou compered to 8 >9 thou for the sportier types.

DJ engine is supposed to run on 98 unleaded, but will run fine on 95 unleaded - just need to adjust the timing slightly.

Sams right, think with about 5 degres retarded ignition 95 unleaded is fine for DJs; nearly all DJs will have been thus adjusted and placarded as such next to the fule filler years ago..

Nooo, noo, and nooo
SUL is for high compression engines, or engines probne to dentonation on low octane fuel, not high revving engines, even hough the two often go hand in hand.
5 1/2 thou is much higher than most VW flat fours normally spin, usually not worth taking them much past 4 1/2 ~ 5
8~9 thou is a motorcycle engine rev-bad, few cars go anywhere near that

DJ MUST have timing checked (5deg BTDC) if running on 95UL..
My B12 revs to 11k.. my bro's 600 did 15k.......
But most bikes (Jap ones) are designed to run on 92UL, although the later generation Fi bikes can take advantage of 98... (knock sensors etc...)
