Excuse my ignorance but does that make it a DF engine?

Does it not say solex on the side? Probably a DF engine set up but my DF engine has a pierburg carb. So things get changed around over time.

the engine number determines what it is.
You can find it on the engine directly below the oil breather tower

Hi burnzdog,
did you not take a look for the number after this post....
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=129160" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the first two digits should be the engine code unless its a vw recon
as for the stalling could be many things, is it still doing it?

Sorry Itchyfeet I reposted as I thought it was in the wrong thread. I have taken this photo of the top of the breather, is this what you meant? In terms of the issue I sprayed up the the throttle arm of the Carb as its a little gunked up. I then changed the fuel filter which had seen better days. I took for a quick spin and it didn't seem to stall at all like it was the other day, but Im not sure ive really done anything to fix.

No the number is stamped into the engine on the vertical metal flat just
below the oil breather tower, at the bottom of the tower are four bolts, this pic has the tower removed but the bolt you see is for the tower, this pic is also a vw recon so does not have the number in the origional format as yours hopefully will but thats where to look.
you will need to clean it
maybe your idle throttle stop is set a little low, if it happens again try turning it up slightly

Its good because it means you have the right carb and dizzy set up
its bad because they are less popular so bits are rare and they also have less power than a dg
its good because you now know what engine you have
