The lights for the speedo, fuel gauge, temperature gauge etc have suddenly failed. This happened first the other day but they came back on again then. Not this time. Not a fuse problem and all other connected lights work when I switch the lights on. Before I start, any ideas? Thanks guys.

I had an intermittent lighting problem above my speedo, I cured it by removing the binnacle cover and tweaking the little pins that make contact with the copper strip that is on the PCB. If all your binnacle lights are out maybe there is a break in the PCB somewhere.
Also you haven't inadvertently turned the dash light dimmer switch down to low have you

Nope the dimmer switch is not the issue. I will try the tweaking option. Cheers.

I did this when I first had my van... certainly confused me for a few minutes!

mine decided recently to do similar over last month or so, culminating in light chaos today...Initially the the dial lights stop working (everything else OK), a quick bang on the the top of the housing and they came back on - i could live with that...today the temp light started to flash and a "test" thump stopped it (I did pull over and check coolant levels etc, note: these were last checked on Monday - all OK). continued driving and was fine til later today when the oil light and buzzer of doom sounded (never heard it before in 5+ years of ownership, was only something i had heard of on here). Again pulled over and checked oil levels etc, all OK. Tried another bump and it went off...again later this evening when i left work and turned on lights, no dash illumination...thump #1 buzzer starts, thump #2 collant light flashes, buzzer stops, thump #4 coolant light stops and dials are finally illuminated...
Gonna have a dig about tomorrow

S*** that sounds like I might be going the same way. I will wait to see what you find. Keep in touch.

Good news for me. The multi-plug at the rear had loosened slightly. I just pushed it back and the lights work again. That was a cheap fix for a change!

Got excited there for a minute thinking I had a dimmer smith that I could turn up. Seems that vans with parking lights(nuisance!) don't have one

Just gave the inside of the dash a good clean...everything had nearly 30 years of dust and crud on it, Brushed and vacuumed out, check multiplug pushed right in, gave everything i could see a wipe i.e. the flexible connectors where they connect to the bulbs and everything is back. My temp sender still played up but seems fine after it got another clean round the back over last week
