Is there timing marks on a 1.9L DG Petrol?
the engine diagnostic plug lead at the back has been cut.

Yes on the main pulley, a "u" shaped one and a "v" shaped one on the outer edge. One is tdc the other 10°

U shape is on the outer rim if the pulley away from the engine and is tdc
the v shape is on the inner rim of tge pulley and is 5 degrees or a 1.9 dg

The danger is that it may not have the right pulley

a 1.9 df is different again being 5 degrees atdc

Ok here is a standard dg pulley
Its 170mm diameter, circumferance is pie x d =534mm so 5 degrees is 7.3mm around the rim
if its 7.3 mm to the left of the u slot its a df pulley

cant comment on a dj pulley never seen one

DJ pulley is same diameter, but timing mark is twice the distance, so on your measurements, 14.6mm from tic mark.
the three groove pulley I'm assuming is power steering and air con also, the marks are on the biggest pulley.

Just to avoid confusion, a DG is 5° BTDC (set with vacuum off), whereas a DF is 5° ATDC (dual vac dizzy set with vacuum still attached), i.e. timing mark is other side of TDC notch.

And don't worry about the diagnostic (tdc sensor) plug being cut, nobody uses it anyway.

What is the ideal timing spot for a 1.9 DG Petrol, Automatic?
I read on here that 8 degrees BTDC was the "sweet spot". I set mine to that and it's OK but i don't have the same top end speed I used to have with my old engine
(N.B: New engine/appox 500miles, with new S.Steel exhaust system, compared with old engine, appx 160 miles and standard exhaust)
I'm thinking to put it back to 5 degrees BTDC. Any thoughts?

5° btdc on petrol, 8° on LPG under normal circumstances
