Can anyone help with technical spec for the 1.6td exhaust manifold studs? Brickwerks list them but are out of stock so I need to search for alternatives. Need a manifold as well

Yep .. I thought they were in stock too. They only have 1 stud and I need 8

Stuff comes and goes daily, we now have a kazillion.

If you spot something we don't have just e-mail, we can lay our hand on most stuff fairly quickly.

Oh, and...
Those studs, the section that screws into the head is really long, As yet I've not found any aftermarket that are anywhere near as long.
We have a box full of cheapies here, right amount protruding from the head but about half the thread into the head.
We tried them, we weren't happy, we just use genuine ones in the workshop.

Blimey, can see why you weren't happy.

Barely threaded in with those cheap ones.

with respect, in all my years I've never pulled out the threads in a head as a result of 'short' studs.
7 full turns is plenty..
However, I do agree the actual quality of the material used can vary a lot. Some studs rust away very quickly where as others are much more resistant.

Well, seeing as the stud is not only in tension but is also subjected to sideways load as the manifold heats up and cools down then the more into the head the better.
This is why they have those thick stainless washers and some of the mounting holes in the manifold are larger than the others.
The manifold is designed to expand and slide on the gaskets.

All those forces ^^^^^^^^ heat, expansion, contraction, acting upon the studs and yet I've never seen a sheared stud due to those forces. Lots rusted away, cross threaded and threads stripped in the head, even a few that have fallen out, however, I have only ever seen them sheared during removal.
Simon, Your experience is obviously different to mine......7 turns or 12, makes no difference IMO, as they pretty much always shear within one or two turns of 'flush with the head'. Quality, in my opinion is more important than length..oooooer missus.

Interesting topic, especially regarding stud failure. I've posted several times about how simple it is to remove sheared studs using a mig. Others prefer the ten times harder method of drilling them out - can you imagine the extra trouble of drilling the longer ones?? Just an observation for those that prepare for failure. Personally, I'd rather the better quality product every time, just because.....
