Any ideas?
Changed the engine mounts yesterday( talk about shot) but that didn't cure it. Could be the gearbox mount?
Only does it in reverse,silent otherwise.

Check the bolts that secure gearbox to engine too. Make sure they are tight. I had one that had worked loose and it only gave probs in reverse....

Mine did it after I changed the gearbox mount - the exhaust tail pipe knocked on the bodywork.

Will check both in the next ouple of days as my brother is using it at the moment, I spoke to him earlier and he says it is not one Clonk but a series, like it's connected to the turning of the wheels.
Although why it's only doing it in reverse I don't know.
Changed the engine mounts, exhaust back box and hangers and that made no difference.
Didn't change them for that by the way.

The change of gearbox mount on mine changed the angle of dangle for the exhaust as the exhaust was lined up using the original mount.

Has to be one of those two then, engine/gearbox bolts or as Oldie says, gearbox mount. Both would case similar symptoms. I found it was even worse if I had to reverse uphill

I too changed engine mounts, absolutely convinced it was those but then went to check gearbox mount. Its was only once I was under there that I thought I'd check gearbox/engine bolts to be sure and just one (lower one) had worked loose by a thread. Its enough to cause probs.

Worth noting that an insecure engine support bar can also create issues but as you've changed mounts, that would have been obvious. Sloppy CV joints don't help but you'd get similar going forwards then (ie a slight lag as vehicle picks up drive) though sometimes its worse in one direction. Do check CV joints anyway. If you're under there, check they're absolutely secure at wheel end. If bolts work loose on one they can clonk for a while before letting go suddenly as the last bolt or two snaps. You can just get your fingers in there to feel the bolt heads. If they're not secure you'll know.

Report back. We always like to know the outcome - especially an angle of dangle

I'm going to vote for that one

And yes, check all of those bolts (mine are Allen headed ones), inners and outers, before using the van again, if they break it is bound to cause hassle (ask me how I know )
