17 D Timing belt

Anyone know if when changing a timing belt on a 17D enigine is there any TDC markings that need to be lined up? Diagrams would be great..1990 T25 1.9 diesel.

just changed the timing belt on my golf tdi and got all the info on youtube. its worth checking out

Cheers, iv been surfing the net everywhere but found nothing.. hope for a dry weekend to do it.

Get the correct tools as they are about £10 on eBay. You will see the marking on the flywheel and front pulley as I recall. Also you have to lock the cam with the correct tool so rocker cover off

I was going to marked with a white pen the sprocket postions then take the old belt off. I see someone done this on youtube..Does the kit include locking bolts etc?

You 'can' do it that way but for the price of the kit with all the locking pins etc being so cheap it's better to get it spot on - I mean it's not like we have power to waste
To do it correctly you lock the pump, cam and crank then loosen the cam pulley when setting belt tension

Thats great. Not much room in there to work on. Can it be fitted from above in the engine bay? also there are so may fitting tools out there any recommendations?
