Dash lights, where to start?

Trying to help a fellow 80-90er... No dash lights on his 89 T25 RHD van. Can anyone advise me (us) where to even start looking? Is there a fuse for the whole shebang? Only thing that lights up when light switch is operated is the rear window demist switch. I was hoping it would be just the rheostat (correct term?) wheel on the lights on/off switch, but juggling that makes no difference. Bit of an electrical dunce I'm afraid!

This might help =

Basically you are just going have to get your meter out and start basic fault finding. Is voltage reaching the PCB (connector 1 on that diagram)? Is connector 3 showing good continuity to earth (ie less than a couple of Ohms)? These are the first things to check, if any fault found there, work back (and shout out again if necessary).

...ps have read the wiki (excellent articles that confused the fleck out of me  ) but am hoping that there's a simple solution first?
