KY glow plugs - pump off?

The 1.7D KY van that's in our drive for an extended stay needs glow plugs - desperately... One of them sheared as soon as I looked at it. The one next to it is short-circuit internally. At least one of the other two is shorted internally, but they're well hidden behind the pump.

Is trying to do them with the pump in place utterly pointless? It looks like it might be doable, with the help of ET's double-jointed brother, but if there's not enough length to withdraw 'em, then it's a non-starter.

Pump off = cambelt time, I presume? It's 4yr/40k since it was last done, so it's about due anyway. Anything else to do whilst in there?

It is possible to replace the plugs in-situ, it's a pain in the a*** and very fiddly but there is enough room to remove the plugs . Mine came out quite easily luckily enough, it wouldn't be an easy job if they were in there tightly though.

Cheers, Ads. I'll brace myself and have a try.

Be careful when you tight the buzz bar back up on top of the plus too, I managed to over tighten mine and bend the bar as the nut turned!

Two plugs in, the other two disconnected (somebody's clearly done the easy two before, and snipped the bus bar, then wired the easy ones up with wire/crimps) - and it starts. MOT 11am tomorrow...

Ah the bodgers before, it's always fun finding what people didn't bother to fix before you!

It started again this morning, but "grumpy" doesn't even begin to describe the first few seconds of running...

Anyway, the MOT man said no. Rotten brake pipe. That's tomorrow's job, then.

Our van's next... I know that's got a long to do list.
