Gear linkage pin replacement

So I'm a bit stuck!

I'm trying to find a replacement gear linkage pin to fit my van, it's the part shown on the following link on just kampers' site

http://www.justkampers.com/251-711-291- ... -1992.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've contacted them directly and they've said its an OE part and supply has dried up, brickwerks, vw heritage and eBay do not list it.

Also aidan talbot said he no longer has it in stock, I haven't found anything on google either.

I need to replace it along with the fork it fits in, the fork is available but the pin is very worn and making my gear change very sloppy.

Might have to get a metal rod and find a way to fit circlips on either end I guess.

Has anyone got any bright ideas?

Thanks!

Adam.

Can you not just use a bolt with a nyloc nut on it?

Well the original has a locking tab that locates on the fork, I assume this stops the pin from turning and makes the UJ style joint swivel on the pin, wasn't sure if a bolt would work in the same way. I think I'm just going to have to trial it by the looks of it!

http://www.detali.ru/priceinfo.aspx?CODE=Gau251711291 737 roubles = £12+ - looks like they get them from Audi in Germany.
Or
http://afora.ru/price/vag/251711291/ 272 roubles = £4.50

This.

However you need an over long bolt [a bolt has a unthreaded shank, a set screw is fully threaded] so that the plain shank goes all the way through the UJ, then you will need to trim the threads so it's not stuck out miles.

I'm fairly sure we have a pile of the correct bolts in a corner somewhere festering, just one of those things we couldn't get either and had to think on our feet and come up with a solution to keep the workshop moving, I don't think they made it to the webshop..

I'll re-investigate.

I am sure that a standard clevis pin would be adaptable - tractor clutch clevis pins are 12" long so there must be pins out there that could be used. Any idea as to the size?

Spoke to nut and bolt supplier, they can make me some with the right amount of plain shank and correct amount of thread stuck out.
Next few weeks..

I know I'm late to this thread, but I was just looking through my old posts - I had the same problem and was directed here.

I ended up using a regular bolt (without an unthreaded shank) and have been driving with it for well over a month now... Is this going to cause me problems? Just wondering about what Ads said...

I got the kit from brickwerks, I had to cut one bolt down as it would hit the pipe nearby but works fine.

I do now have a spare original pin if you want it ?
