continuation of my headlight problem.

Power is coming into my fuse box (later type) on the back left side. next to that is a loom where the lighting wire comes out to the light switch (in my case it is yellow and white). but there is no power getting to that wire, if I put a jump wire across to it the lights are fine so somewhere within the fusebox power is not moving from the +ve input to the yellow and white wire.

I've changed all the fuses (out of desperation). I'm wondering is the 18 relay (x contact) is faulty? what else does this control? my indicators and wipers work fine, I would have thought it would have cut those out as well?

I'm wondering if there is a wiring fault within the fusebox? does anyone have a diagram of where power goes via within th fusebox?

I don't have a wiring diagram for the fuse box and the Heynes diagrams are just unreadable to most folk
Anyway, whilst not impossible, I think it unlikely that a connection inside the fuse box is broken.

However, that load reduction relay could certainly be the culprit. Or it could be the feed or earthing of that relay rather than the relay itself. You can remove the plastic cover and try operating it manually (with your finger).

It's funny how they vary, on one of my two vans the headlights go off when the engine is cranking, and the other does not. One has "dim dip" and one does not. One has intermittent wiper function, the other not. One is 86 (and is the later version, MKII I call them, the other is an 89.

OMG it appears that the wiring in my brain is to blame not the van.

I got in the van Thursday night for a trip to the pub and some wild camping. After 2 1/2 years of ownership I put out my right hand to turn on the lights. I turned in the fog light switch. Since Thursday I have spent several hours and cussing the wiring diagrams which are all "wrong". Now itchy feet has pointed this out and I've realised my mistake. Just went to the van and the light switch is on the left! What a fool

Still at least it's fixed
